Video Poker is a favored game that can be wagered on in casinos throughout the world, or alternatively at home on your personal computer, using a web connection. The game rules are very simple and involve the player trying to achieve the highest assemblage of cards as you can in order to come away with cash. In this respect it is much the same as a classic game of poker, apart from the involvement with any other players. Of course, tactics used in a real-life game of poker, like tricking, will be irrelevant here.
The game of Electronic Poker begins when the player puts credits (either tokens, tickets or cash) into the video poker machine and presses the draw button. A hand of five cards will be electronically ‘handed out’ on the screen.
The Electronic Poker machine also has hold buttons, and players will need to now choose which cards to hold and which to discard. For the cards the player wishes to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons must be pressed so that they illuminate. The player can choose to keep any number of cards they want, from all to none.
After the bettor has decided on which cards she would like to keep, the player will then press ‘deal’, at which point any new cards are handed out if desired. The round is now completed, with the Electronic Poker machine analyzing the cards to see if it is the same as any of the winning hands listed in the payment schedule.
Generally, the minimum succeeding hand on an Electronic Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money growing for each and every better hand. A common list of winning hands starts with jacks or better, moving on to two pairs, 3 of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and finally royal flushes. It goes without saying that the pay out schedule can range from machine to machine, so that skillful enthusiasts are agile enough to pick the most profitable game each instance.
After the first round has played out, the player can either choose to continue on in an attempt to maximize their winnings, or they can press the ‘collect’ button to cash out any money that might have been won. Additionally, a few versions of the game allow the player an opportunity to double their winnings, in which situation a further hand is played. There are also variations between specific games, with some virtual decks having wild cards and other differing aspects to enhance playability.
