Video Poker is a popular game that is able to be enjoyed in casinos all over the world, or alternatively at home on your personal computer, using a net connection. The game rules are very straightforward and consist of the player attempting to achieve the greatest combination of cards possible in order to come away with cash. In this respect it is much the same as a classic game of poker, minus the line of contact with other players. Of course, techniques used in a physical game of poker, such as bluffing, will be useless in Video Poker.
The game of Electronic Poker begins when the bettor inserts credits (either tokens, credit slips or money) into the machine and pushes the play button. A five card hand will be electronically ‘distributed’ on the video screen.
The Video Poker game also has hold buttons, and enthusiasts will need to now pick which cards to keep and which to discard. For the cards the bettor would like to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons need to be pressed so that they light up. The player can decide to keep any number of cards they want, from all to none.
After the bettor has decided on which cards she wishes to keep, they should press ‘draw’, which will mean that any new cards will be needed they will be given out. The round is now finished, with the Video Poker machine analyzing the hand to see if it is the same as any of the winning hands listed in the payout schedule.
Normally, the lowest winning hand on an Electronic Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the award money increasing for each better hand. A list of common winning hands begins with jacks or better, and moves on to 2 pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, four of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It definitely goes without saying that the payout schedule can vary from game to game, so that experienced gamblers are able to choose the most money-making game every time.
After the first round has finished, the player can either choose to stay on in an attempt to maximize their earnings, or press the ‘collect’ button to retrieve any cash that might have been won. Further, a few styles of the game allow the player an opportunity to double their wins, in which case a further hand is played. There are also differences between specific games, with some virtual decks having wild cards and other differing elements to enhance playability.
