Video Poker is a popular game that can be bet on in casinos around the globe, or in your house on your computer, using a net connection. The game rules are absolutely straightforward and involve the player attempting to get the best combination of cards achievable in order to come away with cash. In this respect it’s very similar as a regular game of poker, apart from the line of contact with other players. Of course, methods employed during a physical game of poker, such as tricking, will be irrelevant in Video Poker.

The game of Electronic Poker begins when the player puts credits (whether it is tokens, credit slips or money) into the video poker machine and presses the play button. A 5 card hand will be "dealt" on the screen.

The Electronic Poker game also has buttons with ‘hold’ printed on them, and gamblers should now choose which cards to keep and which to discard. For the cards the enthusiast wishes to keep, the ‘hold’ buttons need to be pressed so that they light up. The player can decide to keep any amount of cards they wish, whether it’s all or none.

After the enthusiast has selected which cards he or she wishes to retain, they should press ‘deal’, at which point any fresh cards are needed they will be given out. The round is now completed, with the Video Poker machine scanning the cards to see if it matches any of the winning hands printed on the pay out schedule.

Generally, the minimum winning hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money getting larger for each better hand. A common list of winning hands starts with jacks or better, and moves on to two pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, four of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It should be known that the payment schedule can range from game to game, so that knowledgeable enthusiasts are agile enough to select the most money-making ones every instance.

Once the initial round has played out, the player can either choose to remain on in an attempt to maximize their winnings, or they can press the ‘collect’ button to retrieve any cash that they may have won. Further, some versions of the game allow the enthusiast a chance to increase their wins, in which case a further game is played. There are also differences between specific machines, with some virtual decks having wild cards and other varying elements to enhance playability.
